Will 2009 be the year of NFC?

OPINION: Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention and the current global financial crisis will make it necessary for all of us to be inventive in the way we do business.

NFC offers businesses a way to gain market share by being inventive and for suppliers with inventive products to gain market share too. Here at Near Field Communications World, we wish everyone an inventive 2009!

  1. No 2009 will not be the year of NFC

Neither will be 2010, but 2011 will look promising, by 2012 it will either be the coolest thing on the street, and CNN will be featuring NFC as the next big thing (they are normally around 12 months behind the curve)

    This assumes:

50% of new phones come with NFC
The kids work out some fun things to do with NFC that does NOT involve the payment, the banks are not rolling out contactless infrastructure any time soon, they have no money (or rather they do not want to spend it on anything risky)
We can still afford to pay for a mobile phone , keep a roof over our heads, some gas in the pipes and fuel for the cars
