The deadline for submitting an entry to the NFC Forum Global Competition has been extended by a month, to 28 February, and a webcast has been arranged for 27 January for those thinking about taking part.

The Webcast briefing will take place on Tuesday 27 January 2009 at 9am Eastern Standard Time and, says the NFC Forum:

NFC Forum representatives and previous Global Competition second-place winners Michael Elliott and Peter Preuss will be on hand along with Global Competition organizers to discuss all the details of the contest: how to enter; how the process works; what the judges are looking for and what winning the competition can do for your organization. You’ll even have an opportunity to hear what makes a competition entry the “Best NFC Service of the Year” directly from the NFC Forum experts.

In the competition, developers in a commercial track compete for ‘The Best NFC Product of the Year 2009’ whilst a research track recognizes ‘The Most Innovative NFC Research Project of the Year 2009’. Winners in each track will be awarded cash prizes worth 5,000 euros for the winner, 1,500 euros for second place and 1,000 euros for third. And there’s swag too: “Competition entrants receive, on a first-come-first-served basis and while supplies last, an NFC-enabled Nokia phone, and a Stollmann NFCStack+Dev Development Kit with a USB Reader,” says the NFC Forum.

Anyone interested in participating in the webcast should register in advance and further information on the competition is available on the NFC Forum’s website and in our earlier article, Forum offers cash awards for NFC competition winners.
