NTT Docomo has announced that it now has ten million subscribers for its DCMX service, which lets customers use their contactless payments-equipped Osaifu-Keitai mobile phone to charge purchases to a Docomo-issued credit card.

Overall, 30 million subscribers now use handsets that are compatible with NTT Docomo’s Osaifu-Keitai mobile wallet service and some 60% of all Docomo customers now use the service.

There are now some 420,000 Osaifu-Keitai compatible iD reader/writers installed at points of sale nationwide, NTT Docomo has also revealed.

“The rapid penetration of DCMX was helped by the popularization of Osaifu-Keitai and iD reader/writer terminals as well as its customer loyalty program,” says NTT Docomo.

Docomo offers three plans under the DCMX brand. DCMX Mini, which offers a monthly credit line of 10,000 yen (around $100) and is billed to the phone account, the standard DCMX plan and a premium DCMX Gold. Each time they make a purchase, standard DCMX and DCMX Gold subscribers earn Docomo points which they can use to gain Docomo product discounts and other customer rewards. Bonus point programs are also offered by selected retailers and at Docomo’s online shopping mall.
