Deutsche Bahn opens registration for next phase of NFC ticketing project

Registration is now open for travellers wishing to take part in the next phase of German rail operator Deutsche Bahn's NFC ticketing pilot.

Since December 2008, 500 customers have been testing the system on the railway lines between Berlin, Potsdam and Hanover. From January 2010, the Touch&Travel pilot is being expanded to cover the Ruhr region and a further 1,000 consumers are being invited to take part in the trial.

A commercial launch of the mobile ticketing system is expected in 2011.
