SK C&C USA joins GlobalPlatform

SK C&C USA, the US arm of Korean mobile commerce specialist SK C&C has joined international smart card and NFC specifications body GlobalPlatform.

SK C&C is part of the US$85bn SK Group, the South Korean conglomerate that also owns SK Telecom. The mobile commerce solutions developer has offered TSM, mobile wallet and mobile banking services in the South Korean market since 2002 and, in September, signed a partnership deal with First Data to supply turnkey NFC-based TSM and mobile wallet services to US banks.

“GlobalPlatform plays a leading role in defining open and interoperable smart card specifications,” says Keith Smith, president and COO of SK C&C USA. “These global standards are becoming increasingly important as NFC and other alternate mobile payment technologies advance across sectors and geographical boundaries. SK C&C USA recognizes the benefits that open and interoperable technology brings to the mobile payment community, and we look forward to contributing to GlobalPlatform’s important work in this field through our membership.”
