O2 Money recruits NFC and payments specialists to ‘establish the newest name in financial services’

O2 Money, the financial services arm of UK mobile network operator O2, is on the hunt for a number of NFC, card and payments specialists to “help establish the newest name in financial services,” according to the company’s recruitment service.

“Although we have roles in a number of teams at various levels, the main areas we are recruiting to are NFC and payments,” says the O2 Jobs website. “We’re currently trying to make our customers’ lives easier by giving them some exciting new ways to pay for things on the go. Many jobs will involve making these innovations a success. Experience in this field would be ideal, but it’s your passion for linking technology with payments that’s important.”

O2 Money was launched by UK mobile network operator O2, part of the Telefónica group, in July 2009. Its first products were low-tech prepaid card offers that add the simple twist of sending the cardholder a text message each time they are used and are offered in conjunction with NatWest bank.

O2 chief executive Ronan Dunne clearly signalled at the launch, however, that this was to be just the start of the mobile network operator’s move into the payments arena.

“O2 has a strong and successful track record of innovation and O2 Money will represent a launchpad into a wide range of mobile banking services”, Dunne said at the time. “We believe that we are at the start of a journey towards the coming together of phone and wallet and we intend, through O2 Money, to be at the forefront of this trend. This launch represents an important step towards O2 becoming a leading service provider with mobile at its core.”
