‘Virtually all’ BlackBerry phones to include NFC

Virtually all new BlackBerry devices from now on will include near field communication capabilities, Research in Motion‘s UK managing director has said.

At a Westminster e-forum on smartphones, tablets and apps, Stephen Bates suggested that almost all upcoming Research in Motion (RIM) smartphones and tablets would include these capabilities, ZDNet reports.

This follows on from RIM chief Jim Balsillie’s announcement at Mobile World Congress last month that “many if not most” of 2011’s BlackBerrys would have NFC built in.

“We’re going to deploy NFC in virtually all of our devices,” Bates said, adding that NFC technology “creates new businesses, new markets and new revenue streams”.

In January, a leaked roadmap of the CDMA phones RIM plans to launch in 2011/12 included details of four BlackBerry handsets equipped with NFC — the Monaco Touch, the Montana, the Sedona and the Malibu.
