POS terminal maker Verifone has bought mobile retail specialist Global Bay.

The purchase enables Verifone to move from the point of sale to the retail floor, accepting payments on smartphones and tablets using Global Bay’s applications. According to Global Bay CEO Sandeep Bhanote — now general manager of VeriFone’s mobile retail systems business — “VeriFone understands the profound and transformative impact that mobile technology will have on the future of retail. Together we will maximize delivery of cutting edge mobile solutions that will change the face of retailing as we know it.”

Verifone has committed to including support for NFC in all its future POS terminals.
