Intel has upgraded its membership of the NFC Forum from 'Principal' to 'Sponsor', the top level of membership. The move gives Intel a seat on the board of directors, among other privileges.

"Intel believes NFC has great potential to enhance user experiences via simplified and secure device interaction" says Ed Agis, Intel's NFC Forum representative and the new member of the association's board. "We are excited to have the opportunity to contribute to its evolution and growth in adoption across multiple platforms."
"Intel's decision to increase its level of involvement with the NFC Forum highlights the rising importance of NFC technology to our members and its value to consumers and businesses around the globe," says Koichi Tagawa, chairman of the NFC Forum. "I'm delighted to welcome Intel to our board of directors."
The move follows Intel's announcement last month that it is working with MasterCard to develop NFC payments solutions for Ultrabook devices as well as "future generations of Intel-based PCs".
