Intel has signed a technology transfer and service agreement with NFC chip specialist Inside Secure.
The deal covers Inside’s MicroRead NFC controller chip, its SecuRead combined NFC controller and embedded secure element solution as well as the Open NFC protocol stack for Android devices and will provide the semiconductor giant with access to Inside’s software, firmware and core hardware technology as it moves towards bringing NFC solutions to market.
“NFC is gaining traction in many markets as one of the most convenient ways to use consumer electronic devices for payments and retail commerce transactions, for access to facilities and information, and a host of other applications,” says Aicha Evans, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Mobile Wireless Group. “We look forward to working with Inside to develop and bring to market a range of exciting connectivity solutions for mainstream consumer products that incorporate NFC features.”
Earlier this month, Intel acquired a seat on the board of the NFC Forum when it upgraded its membership level with the organisation. The move followed the announcement in November that the chipmaker is working with MasterCard on payments solutions for NFC-enabled Intel Ultrabook devices and future generations of Intel-based PCs.
