Turkcell adds location-based offers to NFC payments platform

The Turkish mobile network operator has combined its location-based service (LBS) platform with its NFC mobile wallet service to allow subscribers to receive special offers on their NFC phone when they are near a participating merchant — and then redeem an offer at the point-of-sale.

CEP-T CUZDAN: Now with location based offers

Turkish mobile network operator Turkcell has combined its location-based service (LBS) offering and its Cep-T Cüzdan NFC mobile wallet platform.

The resulting service allows customers with NFC phones to receive location-based offers, store them on their mobile phone and then redeem them at the point-of-sale. Promotions tailored to a specific customer’s profile are also available.

Turkcell is working with Akbank for the introduction of the new service, which is available to Turkcell subscribers who load an Akbank Axess credit card onto their NFC mobile wallet. The special offers are provided by Akbank, whose Axess cardholders are already provided with a range of merchant and service provider offers.

“Now, Turkcell subscribers holding Axess cards can shop with their mobile phones through Turkcell Cep-T Cüzdan and benefit from the special promotions offered by Akbank,” the mobile network operator explains. “Providing customers with surprises through location-based services makes mobile shopping all the more attractive for them.”

“We are proud to have realized many firsts in the area of NFC technology that we have implemented both globally and in Turkey,” says Cenk Bayrakdar, Turkcell’s chief new technology business officer. “In today’s world where mobile phones are an indispensable part of our lives, we will ensure that those of our customers who have Axess cards will make use of the advantages of mobility via Turkcell’s Cep-T Cüzdan application, and conveniently realize the opportunities that surround them with location-based marketing capabilities.”

“We closely monitor and adopt technological changes that facilitate our customers’ lives,” adds Mehmet Sindel, Akbank’s EVP for payment systems. “Today, we never leave our mobile phones behind when we walk out the home, and we let our friends and people around us know our location through social media on our mobile phones.

“We have now launched the first application in our country which combines NFC technology and location based services. By doing so, we will enable our cardholders to make full use of the advantages of mobility, and with location based marketing we can easily alert card holders to notice the opportunities around them.”
