RTA, the Dubai roads and transport authority, has announced plans to introduce NFC ticketing across the emirate’s metro, bus and water bus services next year.
RTA, Dubai’s public transportation authority, is to implement an NFC ticketing system, chairman Mattar Al Tayer has announced.
The service, currently undergoing pilot testing, will be delivered in conjunction with mobile network operators Etisalat and Du and will go live in 2013, making it the first service of its kind in the Middle East.
The NFC service is based on Dubai’s existing Nol transit card, a stored value card that can be topped up with funds at ticket offices, ticket vending machines, sales agents and at RTA customer service centres. Online top ups are to be introduced in the near future.
