iPhone 5S with NFC “likely”

Apple is likely to launch an “iPhone 5S” in June or July 2013, Peter Misek of investment bank Jefferies has predicted in a new research note. “Based on our checks, likely updates include a new super HD camera/screen, a better battery, and NFC. Possible updates include an IGZO screen for Retina+, 128GB storage, and coming in six to eight colors.”

  1. With every new iPhone comes the “includes NFC” rumour.

If Apple were going to include NFC, they’d have done it by now. They are more likely developing their own proprietary solution so that 3rd parties will be locked out. But, we’ll hear the rumours for another half year, until the next rumours begin.

    1. It is the other way around. Apple is late to the party and may have one last chance with the next version of the iPhone.

There’s a very real chance NFC is going to leave Apple behind. It is already happening.

  2. Apple can’t bypass or ignore NFC. Maybe it is in the 5S, maybe in the 6. It will probably be integrated with the build-in SIM-card and that could very well be the reason Apple does not put a separate NFC + secure element chip in the iPhone. Scanning QR-codes will be so from the past in a few years, also for iPhone owners!
