Game Golf launches wearable NFC to help golfers’ game

“Existing golf technologies only provide technology that helps on the course, but we provide the complete package, giving you everything you need to improve your game and compete before, during and after you take to the course,” says CEO John McGuire.

Game Golf, a new NFC wearable technology created by Active Mind Technology and backed by professional golfers Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood, was announced today.

Golfers can record their statistics through a combination of NFC tags attached to each club and Game Golf’s own GYG device — a small box loaded with GPS, motion sensors and Bluetooth as well as NFC.

Users simply tap their club to the GYG device which records and then syncs information on their performance to the official app.

The device tracks club-by-club performance, fairway accuracy, shot distance and location amongst other statistics for up to two rounds of golf.

Golfers will also be able to share their results with friends, analyse technique and even set challenges for others to try and beat — a social aspect that Game Golf CEO and co-founder John McGuire believes the golfing community has been crying out for.

“A new era of quantification and gamification is rapidly and radically changing the way we live, work and play,” he said.

“Existing golf technologies only provide technology that helps on the course, but we provide the complete package, giving you everything you need to improve your game and compete before, during and after you take to the course.”

Launching initially through pre-orders and an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, Game Golf hopes to bring the product to market by summer 2013.
