Telecom Italia and payments technology provider SIA are to pilot an NFC ticketing service with three transport operators in the Naples and Emilia-Romagna regions of Italy by the end of 2013.

Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna (TPER), ANM Napoli and Start Romagna will offer mobile tickets stored in an NFC SIM that can be bought, renewed and redeemed using Telecom Italia’s TIM wallet app.

Telecom Italia, which has already pilot tested NFC ticketing in Milan, says the platform will also be available to other transport operators and mobile operators.

The new ticketing system will simplify customer travel and not only be a constantly available platform but also allow interoperability between different transport companies and across different regions and cities, says Telecom Italia.
