G&D launches SkySIM multi application NFC SIM cards

Giesecke & Devrient’s SkySIM CX, an NFC SIM card that allows several NFC applications to be executed at the same time, has received EMVCo, American Express, MasterCard and Visa approval, confirming it meets their requirements for use in secure payments systems.

Cards in the SkySIM CX family come with up to 1.3 megabytes of memory and are available in 2FF, micro-SIM, and nano-SIM form factors. As well as NFC payments, the Java Card 3.0.1 Classic-based SIM cards also support Mifare, Cipurse and Calypso transit ticketing applications and loyalty programs.

“The new product family gives network operators an opportunity to create new business models,” the company says. “As well as offering their own applications, they will now be able to set up highly secure areas on the SIM card — referred to as ‘containers’ — for third-party applications.

“Service providers can run their own applications in these containers, in return for a fee payable to the network operator. This will help to bring the widespread introduction of NFC services another step closer.”

  1. How can this SIM connect with external device to do payment? I think it have to be used with a mobile which support special function? As SWP or something like that? Thank you

    1. Yes, this is designed to work with NFC phones. NFC SIMs do not include NFC radio circuitry or an antenna – that needs to be already present in the host device.

  2. That means we can use this kind of SIM with a little quantity of mobiles.

    As I read on G&D’s website, this SIM supports SWP, SCWS and USB protocol. But in the article, you said that, the SIM is available on 2FF, nano, micro SIM. Sorry because i don’t understand. Because with nano SIM & micro SIM. We just have 6 pins. And i think we use 5 Pin follow smartcard standard: VCC, GND, I/O, CLK, RST, Vpp.
    My question is, how mobile can connect with this kind of SIM? I mean physical connection.
