Marriott to deliver rewards to guests via BLE

Hotel chain Marriott is adding support for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and special offers to its rewards program, enabling guests to access deals provided by Marriott hotels and other businesses during their stay. The new LocalPerks services will provide Marriott Rewards members with geo-targeted mobile offers during their visit to a particular hotel.

“Using beacon technology, participating hotels will send guests push notifications on their mobile devices as they move about the property,” Marriott says.

“Offers will be tailored to the property, ranging from food and beverage to spa to golf. Future plans for LocalPerks include Marriott Rewards offers available locally in the neighborhoods surrounding participating hotels.”

The first property to introduce LocalPerks will be the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina, which is due to go live on 24 July, followed by the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa.

Between stays, members will also be able to access FlashPerks, a program that enables them to redeem points or pay cash for a range of exclusive deals and experiences. Weekly deals, including limited time offers on merchandise, hotel rooms and experiences will be available, Marriott says.

“With our global portfolio of brands and our ability to scale our mobile activations quickly, we are excited by these and other opportunities that marry new technologies and consumer benefits,” says Karin Timpone, Marriott’s global marketing officer.
