RBC expands cloud-based NFC wallet to BlackBerry and Virgin

RBC's NFC wallet now works with more phones

Royal Bank of Canada’s cloud-based NFC wallet is now available to Virgin Mobile subscribers and to customers with a BlackBerry Z10 or Z30 mobile phone, the bank has announced.

RBC Wallet is also now available on five more Android handsets — the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2, Z and ZL.

The service was launched in January 2014 with initial availability limited to Bell Mobility subscribers with a Samsung Galaxy S III or Samsung Galaxy S4 NFC phone.

It was then extended in May 2014 to support the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1 and HTC One M7 and MasterCard credit cards in addition to the original Interac debit and Visa payment options.

“With the addition of new mobile devices we are making the RBC Wallet more accessible to our clients through an additional platform and devices, ensuring that our users will continue to have the choice and flexibility that they have experienced in our traditional and online banking channels,” says Linda Mantia, executive vice-president for cards and payment solutions at RBC.

“Our mobile capabilities are growing and will continue to evolve to offer our clients with value added services, more payment options, on more devices, across more networks.”
