BUY IT: Buyable Pins for iOS will appear in the US soon, with Android support to follow

Visual discovery app Pinterest is to let its users make payments through Apple Pay on its platform by clicking on Buy buttons that will be integrated into a retailer’s page, including those from Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.

The Buyable Pins are to be introduced for iOS in the US in a “few weeks”, with support for Android expected in future releases. Consumers will also be able to complete a purchase on the platform by typing in their credit card details.

“When you spot a Pin with a blue price, you’ll know you can buy it right from the app,” the company’s engineering manager Chao Wang explains in a blog post. “When you’re ready to check out, tap Buy it and pay with Apple Pay or a credit card. Soon, you’ll be on your way and back to Pinning. Once you enter your personal information, we’ll store it so you don’t have to thumb it in again next time.”

A video shows a demonstration of Buyable Pins:

“The fewer people who have access to your credit card information, the better, and that includes us,” Wang continues. “That’s why we won’t store your credit card information ourselves. Instead, we’re working with payment processors who’ve been protecting people’s information for years.

“You’ll find millions of Buyable Pins on Pinterest, from great brands like Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, retailers powered by Demandware like Cole Haan and Michaels, and thousands of Shopify stores like Poler Outdoor Stuff and Sobu.”
