A six-page excerpt from ABI Research’s Payment & Banking Card Technologies report is now available to download free of charge from the NFC World+ Knowledge Centre courtesy of Gemalto, which topped ABI’s vendor rankings in the report for the second consecutive year.

Opening with an examination of the EMV landscape and a prediction that EMV card shipments will reach more than 3.5bn units in 2020, the paper provides figures for EMV shipments in different regions around the world including Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Europe, North America and Latin America.

The excerpt also provides statistics on the percentage of contactless EMV cards that have been shipped so far, examines the mobile payments value chain and gives insight into the trends set to shape the industry including continued rapid EMV migration in the US and increased activity in the digital wallet landscape driving increased demand for TSM solutions.

The paper also includes a competitive assessment of seven leading smart card vendors, scored against 10 different criteria. Gemalto tops the league with a score of 90.6 out of 100.
