PRESENTER: NXP’s Pierre Goarin

The hour-long webcast was hosted by Sarah Clark, editor of NFC World, and featured a presentation by Pierre Goarin, marketing manager for the smart home sector in NXP’s NFC team.

The webinar took place on March 2 and topics covered included:

  • An overview of where IoT is today and the current roadblocks for mass market adoption;
  • The potential for secure element technology to be used to protect and secure the Internet of Things;
  • A step-by-step look at the process involved in commissioning new devices via NFC — even when they are not plugged in and powered — using a smart home as a case study;
  • A run through the value proposition and the advantages and benefits for NFC commissioning and why the technology and its touch-to-connect simplicity is a key building block of the IoT.

The presentation was followed by an extensive Q&A session that covered the role of NFC in protecting consumers’ security and privacy in the IoT, using a secure element to add security to a smart home or IoT system, what is involved in including NFC in a connected consumer device and advice for manufacturers looking to add IoT capabilities to their products today.

A full recording of the webinar is now available free of charge in the NFC World+ Knowledge Centre, along with a downloadable slide deck from the event.
