Australia’s ANZ adds support for Apple Pay

Customers of Australia’s ANZ bank can now make payments using Apple Pay with either an ANZ Visa debit or credit card or an ANZ American Express credit card. The bank is the first of the country’s big four to add support for the mobile payment service.

ANZApple Pay launched in Australia in November 2015 with support from American Express alone and reports emerged the following month that the company was struggling to persuade Australia’s big banks to sign up for the service.

“The introduction of Apple Pay is a significant milestone in our strategy to use digital technology to provide our customers with a superior experience and will be a watershed moment in the adoption of mobile payments in Australia,” says ANZ CEO Shayne Elliott.

“I’m proud we’re the first major Australian bank to offer Apple Pay and we are confident the convenience, security and privacy will be well received by our customers.”
