Swatch Bellamy launches in Brazil in time for Rio 2016

Swiss luxury watchmaker Swatch has launched its Swatch Bellamy NFC payments watch in Brazil in partnership with Visa in time for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The watch launched in China in October 2015 and was made available in Switzerland last month.

Swatch“With the Olympic Games around the corner, Visa is unveiling a third wearable payment option — the Swatch Bellamy watch — to reinforce this year’s Olympics as the most technologically advanced Games to date,” Visa says.

“Swatch Bellamy is a fast alternative to cash — bring the watch up close to a contactless payment terminal for a moment and payment is completed in a matter of seconds, saving precious time. Unlike traditional payment cards, there is nothing about the watch that reveals it can be used for payment, making it a discreet way to pay.”

The payment network is providing select fans and attendees at the Rio Games with a Pulseira Bradesco Visa Band that will enable them to make NFC payments with a tap of their wrist at more than 4,000 Visa contactless terminals. The company is also supplying athletes with NFC payment rings.

Swatch confirmed its agreement with Visa and Visa Europe to roll out the NFC payments watch in the US, Switzerland and Brazil in November 2015.
