HIDDEN GEM: NFC tags will reveal information about diamonds invisible to the naked eye

Diamond and gemstone production technology provider Sarine is to integrate NFC into its sales and consumer support system to make it possible for shoppers to retrieve information about a diamond — such as its history, cut and craftsmanship — with a tap of an NFC device.

The company will make use of Thinfilm’s NFC SpeedTap tags to enable the service through its Sarine Profile platform.

“Sarine Profile, together with NFC SpeedTap, provides diamonds and gemstones with a digital identity,” Thinfilm says. “The digital diamond story is stored in the cloud, fully accessible 24/7 from any online device. By tapping the SpeedTap tag, viewers see measurements and displays of the diamond’s true light beauty in terms of brilliance, fire, sparkle and light symmetry.

“Sarine Profile also provides information not visible to the naked eye, such as an accurate graphical representation of the diamond’s hidden hearts and arrows pattern, and cut and craftsmanship. For dealers and retailers, the NFC capability puts Sarine Profile diamond information as close as possible to the customer and the sales presentation. The information helps consumers make an informed decision when choosing a stone.”

“The implementation of SpeedTap tags with the Sarine Profile system enables retailers and consumers to enjoy the benefits of instant, automatic access to the powerful story of the diamond,” says Uzi Levami, CEO of Sarine.
