Japanese government to trial biometrics

The government of Japan is to begin piloting a biometric authentication-based payments service next month that will enable travelers to make purchases using their fingerprint. “The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will start the service at tourism spots in three areas,” Bangkok Post reports. “A trial will be conducted at hotel check-ins in popular tourist areas.” The platform will make use of technology supplied by Dai Nippon Printing and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting. Plans for the system were first unveiled in April 2016.
