NSW to check tickets with NFC

Australia’s transit authority for New South Wales is seeking partners in the IT industry to develop an Android NFC phone app that Transport for NSW officers could use to interact with the authority’s contactless Opal transit cards. The app would be used to top up commuters’ prepaid cards and to issue penalties, ZDNet reports.

MapYourTag adds NFC tracking

Hang Seng extends NFC reach

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Bank is expanding its NFC payments service to customers of mobile network operator CSL. The Hang Seng Mobile Payment Service has been available to PCCW Mobile customers since July and will now also be offered to CSL’s 1010 and One2free subscribers. Hang Seng MasterCard holders using an Android NFC phone are able to make payments through MasterCard PayPass terminals at over 3,000 merchants, the  bank says.

Nexperts to demo HCE

NFC specialist Nexperts will demonstrate Host Card Emulation, Google’s recently announced feature for Android 4.4 ‘Kitkat’ that eliminates the need for a physical NFC secure element, at Cartes 2013. A contactless payment transaction will be shown on an existing NFC-enabled POS terminal using the new method.

Oberthur Technologies has launched ‘ID-One PIV for eSE’, a software solution that enables US federal government personal identity verification (PIV) credentials to be stored on an embedded NFC secure element, allowing mobile phones to be used for logical and physical access control instead of smart cards. Oberthur’s Pearl embedded secure elements can be found in devices including the Xiaomi Mi3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4.
