New Snapdragon supports NFC

Chip maker Qualcomm has unveiled a new generation of Snapdragon processors aimed at “premium mobile computing devices”. Mobile network operator Vodafone‘s NFC-based mobile wallet and prepaid SmartPass account is now available in the Netherlands. The launch follows introductions in Spain in November 2013 and in Germany earlier this month. The service is also due to be launched in the UK “later this year.”

Cuscal tests HCE in Australia

An NFC payments service using host card emulation (HCE) is being tested in-house by Australian transactional banking services provider Cuscal. The company aims to make the solution commercially available mid 2014, as either a client-branded mobile app or via an API, enabling its clients’ customers to use their mobile phones to make payments at any Visa payWave contactless terminal.

LG has unveiled a range of eco-friendly washing machines that can be paired with a consumer’s smartphone via NFC.
