Sony unveiled the Sony Xperia S at CES 2012. The handset includes NFC functionality, a 4.3-inch HD screen, 12MP camera and a 1.5GHz dual core processor.

The Xperia S is believed to be the device previously known as the Sony Ericsson Nozomi. In mid-2011 Sony contracted to buy NFC controller chips with an embedded secure element from NXP.

The Sony Xperia S is now shipping, with the first units being made available at the Sony Style store in Barcelona, Spain in late February 2012 to coincide with the Mobile World Congress.

The device initially ships with Android 2.3, with an upgrade to Android 4 promised.
