Pelephone launches NFC service in Israel

Mobile network operator Pelephone is to launch an NFC digital wallet in Israel, initially using contactless stickers, in partnership with credit card companies Leumi Card and Isracard. The service is set to go live in a few weeks time.

FlashiZ to expand NFC and QR payments service to Australia

Luxembourg-based mobile payments and loyalty provider Mobey is to launch its  FlashiZ prepaid service in Australia by the end of this year. The company’s digital wallet supports both NFC and QR codes and is currently available online and instore at 500 merchants in Luxembourg, including Fischer bakeries, energy supplier Sudstroum and Vinci Park.

Far EasTone to pilot NFC payments in Taiwan

Far EasTone, Taiwan’s third largest mobile network operator, is to begin testing NFC mobile payments during the third quarter of 2013, in cooperation with Far Eastern International Bank and MasterCard.

Wireless Dynamics launches NFC case for iPhone 5

A version of Canadian NFC and RFID specialist Wireless Dynamics’ iCarte NFC case for Apple iPhones is now available for the iPhone 5. The device is approved by both Apple and Visa, enabling it to be deployed by issuers of the payment network’s debit and credit cards.

Bookstore Libri pilots NFC service in Hungary

An NFC mobile shopping application developed by mobile financial services provider SafePay Systems has achieved an overall satisfaction rate of 90% with shoppers who used the service during a pilot at Hungarian bookstore chain Libri — and 96.4% said they would recommend the service to a friend.

A total of 168m NFC controller ICs and 144m NFC secure element chips were shipped in 2012, according to ABI Research, and NXP topped the chip supplier list for both.
