South West Trains provides passengers with special offers via NFC

The Tap4Offers platform has been installed in 360 of the UK rail operator's carriages and platform provider KBH plans to extend the service to 6,000 carriages operated by eleven rail service providers later this year.

New York City to pilot NFC parking meters

The New York City Department of Transportation is to pilot test PayByPhone‘s mobile payments system, which is already live in San Francisco, Miami, London and Vancouver, in an 18 block area of the Belmont Business Improvement District in the Bronx.

Academics from the School of Computing and Mathematics at Plymouth University have developed an NFC tag platform that allows sellers to promote their property in a more discreet way than the traditional ‘for sale’ board.

Seamless adds NFC to QR payments platform

Seqr does not require merchants to install new hardware and promises to cut transaction fees in half by bypassing the traditional payments networks. McDonald's, Axfood and Kjell & Company have already adopted the system in Sweden.

Samsung adds Galaxy Mega 6.3-inch NFC phone

Samsung has added a new smartphone to its Galaxy range. The Galaxy Mega  “phablet” comes in two sizes, with a 6.3-inch or 5.8-inch HD LCD screen. The 6.3-inch model will come with NFC. Both versions will be available globally, beginning in Europe and Russia in May 2013.

NFC tags beat QR codes in Dutch retail pilot

“We have found that the NFC tags are more popular than the QR codes because they are very simple to use,” upmarket fashion retailer Vic has told NFC World. “It is definitely something we hope to keep in our store going forward into the future; it is our way of connecting our online and offline worlds.”
