    Brain biometrics study gets $900,000 grant

    Binghamton University in the US has been awarded US$900,000 to continue investigations into the next-generation of brain biometric technology. The four-year project, ‘Brain Hacking: Assessing psychological and computational vulnerabilities in brain-based biometrics’, will examine the strengths of weaknesses for cyberspace security of identifying a person by measuring their brainprint – the brain’s response to different stimuli.

    Brain waves could replace passwords

    Brain waves could be used to verify a person’s identity in the future, researchers from Binghamton University have demonstrated in a study published in academic journal Neurocomputing. Using a sample of 45 volunteers and a list of 75 acronyms, the ‘Brainprint’ study found that participants’ brains reacted differently to each acronym, enough that a computer system identified each person with 94% accuracy.
