The prospectus for Inside Secure's IPO this month shows that the company made US$47m from the sale of NFC chips in 2011, that these were mainly delivered to RIM for use in BlackBerry NFC smartphones and that Inside believes it now has a share of close to 50% of the overall market for NFC chips for mobile phones. More

Transport ticketing alliance debuts ‘Cipurse’ open alternative to Mifare

The Open Standard for Public Transport (OSPT) Alliance is proposing a new open ticketing standard to be called Cipurse that will "enable technology suppliers to develop and deliver interoperable transit fare collection solutions for cards, stickers, fobs, NFC mobile phones and other consumer devices." Singapore's Land Transport Authority is the first to agree to adopt the new standard. More
