    mVisa launches in Kenya

    Visa has launched its mVisa QR code-based mobile payment service in Kenya with Co-Operative Bank, Family Bank, KCB and NIC Bank. “With mVisa, consumers can directly access all of the funds in their bank accounts to pay merchants or individuals,” Visa says. mVisa was unveiled in August 2015 through a pilot with Indian banks. ICICI Bank became the first to offer the service to consumers in October, followed by State Bank of India, which announced its support for mVisa in May 2016. It is due to arrive in Nigeria by the end of this year.

    mVisa to launch in Nigeria by year end

    Visa is in “advanced discussions with leading Nigerian banks” — including Diamond Bank — to roll out its mVisa QR code-based mobile payments service in the country before the end of 2016. mVisa was unveiled in August 2015 through a pilot with Indian banks. ICICI Bank became the first to launch the service to consumers in October, followed by State Bank of India, which announced its support for mVisa in May 2016.

    Customers of State Bank of India (SBI) can now make QR code-based mobile payments using mVisa, the mobile payment platform unveiled by Visa and piloted by SBI in August 2015. “Bank customers can simply download the latest version of SBI Anywhere application and register for mVisa payments by simply clicking the mVisa icon on the home screen,” SBI says. “In the first phase, SBI’s mVisa service has been introduced in Bangalore city — this facility will be gradually expanded to other cities.”

    SBI to launch feature phone wallet

    State Bank of India (SBI) is to launch Batua, a mobile wallet service that works on feature phones, The Economic Times reports. “The bank is also planning to launch another version of Batua for very basic phones which does not offer internet access and does not entail downloading any app.” SBI is one of six banks currently testing a mobile payments service developed by Visa in Bangalore.
