Mobile network operator Three has launched a SIM-based NFC mobile payments service in Austria. “For this new service, a virtual debit card with contactless payment function based on MasterCard PayPass is being stored on the Android smartphone’s NFC SIM card,” the carrier says. “Three customers can test 3Geldbörse for two months for free. After two months, the new services costs 1€/month.”

Russia’s Gazprombank and MasterCard are piloting NFC mobile and contactless card payments for transit fares using PayPass terminals across the K-39 bus route in St Petersburg. “Residents and guests will be able to quickly, easily and securely pay for their fare by bank cards and others devices; mobile phones, watches, key chains, stickers etc,” MasterCard says.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Bank is expanding its NFC payments service to customers of mobile network operator CSL. The Hang Seng Mobile Payment Service has been available to PCCW Mobile customers since July and will now also be offered to CSL’s 1010 and One2free subscribers. Hang Seng MasterCard holders using an Android NFC phone are able to make payments through MasterCard PayPass terminals at over 3,000 merchants, the bank says.
