The small scale trial is being run in conjunction with MasterCard, Giesecke & Devrient, E-Kart and Venyon.
Akbank, Turkey’s largest bank, and Turkcell, the country’s leading mobile operator, have begun a small scale trial of NFC payments in Istanbul.
The two companies have launched the trial in cooperation with MasterCard, E-Kart, Giesecke & Devrient and Venyon, which is providing the Trusted Service Manager (TSM) services that enable Akbank to provision participants’ Turkcell NFC SIM cards with a MasterCard PayPass application.
The SIM cards are being provided by Giesecke & Devrient and both the NFC-enabled mobile phones and the SIM cards used support the Single Wire Protocol (SWP) standard. The trial is scheduled to run for three months.
