ST-Ericsson to add NFC to wireless platforms

The chief chip architect of wireless platform and semiconductor maker ST-Ericsson has said the company will integrate NFC capabilities in its platforms alongside other connectivity functions, ITProPortal reports.

Louis Tannyeres did not give details about timing, but the report went on to say that:

Tannyeres explained that putting NFC on the application processor would be counterproductive since it would add to the complexity of the product and lengthen the time to market of products (in a segment where the validation process takes longer than actually making the parts) without a significant impact on the production costs.

ST-Ericsson is 50% owned by STMicroelectronics and is a key supplier to NokiaSamsung Mobile and Sony Ericsson.
