O2 expands Pilsen NFC project

Telefonica Czech Republic has launched the final phase of its two-year NFC trial in the city of Pilsen. For six months, fifty users will test a fully-featured Pilsen city card held in a SIM-based mobile wallet application running on Samsung Star II NFC handsets.

The Pilsen Card can be used for prepaid city transport, as a library card, and for purchases at select retail partners. This pilot expands on last year’s launch of Pilsen cards on the Nokia 6212 NFC handset.

“Pilsen citizens will be able to use the O2 Wallet mobile application with the new generation of the Pilsen Card to pay their fare and tickets for cultural events, it will also become an alternative to loyalty, entry and payment cards,” says Richard Walitza, NFC and financial services manager of Telefónica Czech Republic.
