Handheld NFC terminal packs a printer

The Casio IT-9000 is designed for applications that require on the spot printing, such as receipts for mobile retail transactions, receipts and tickets for public transportation, as well as for meter reading, proof of delivery and queue busting operations.

Electronic device manufacturer Casio has announced a rugged handheld terminal that includes a touch screen, thermal printer and NFC capability.

The IT-9000 Handheld Printer Terminal is designed for applications that require on the spot printing, such as receipts for mobile retail transactions, receipts and tickets for public transportation, and the issuance of tickets for parking and traffic violations. It is also expected to be used for meter reading, proof of delivery and queue busting operations.

The device is equipped with an NFC reader/writer compatible with ISO 14443 Type A&B and Felica cards and devices as well as ISO 15693 RFID tags. Options include a CMOS imager for scanning barcodes, a magnetic card reader, 3G wireless WAN, GPS, and a colour auto-focus digital camera. The IT-9000 also has secure access module (SAM) slots on-board.

The IT-9000 features 3.7-inch VGA display and is compliant with IP54 dust proof and splash proof standards as well as being able to withstand drops of up to 1.5 metres. The terminal will ship in February 2012.
