GSMA showcases mobile keys

The GSM Association has produced a video introduction to NFC mobile keys that shows how the technology can bring benefits beyond those offered by traditional keys.

The four-minute film demonstrates how an NFC phone can be used to unlock doors and shows how, for instance, a temporary key can be sent over the air to another phone so that a friend or tradesman can securely access a home, eliminating the need to hide a physical key under the doormat or behind a pot plant.

The video, which features hardware and software from physical access control giant Assa Abloy, also shows how the mobile operators’ association sees mobile keys being stored securely in the SIM so that they are easy to move to a new phone. Another benefit mentioned is that NFC keys can be disabled remotely in the event of a handset being lost.
