T-Mobile owner Deutsche Telekom has picked German payments processing specialist Wirecard to support its move into the mobile payments market.

The strategic partnership with Wirecard follows the signing of a major mobile payments deal with MasterCard last month and covers “the technical processes for issuing the Telekom MasterCard” as well as payments processing support.

“In Wirecard we have found the best partner for card management and technical processing, taking the next step in creating an ecosystem for anything to do with mobile payment,” says Deutsche Telekom’s Peter Vesco. “With the technical implementation of online, store-based and mobile payment in the safe and experienced hands of specialist Wirecard, we can concentrate on our core business.”
