MOVISTAR: Tickets are bought in blocks of 10 and charged to the customer’s mobile phone bill

Telefónica has announced plans to begin an NFC transit ticketing pilot in the Asturias region of Spain, in conjunction with Asturias Transport Consortium (CTA), the local public transportation operator.

The pilot will test out an NFC application that allows Telefónica Movistar customers to charge their transit ticket purchases to their mobile phone bill. The tickets will be sold in blocks of 10, with the current balance of tickets available being stored in the subscribers’ SIM card. Customers will then be able to use the tickets to access local bus and train services.

In the first phase, one hundred Telefónica customers are being recruited to take part in the pilot, which is scheduled to begin in November.
