Samsung has launched the Galaxy S4 Active, a rugged dust- and water-proof version of its flagship Galaxy S4 model aimed at “explorers and adventure seekers.”

The NFC-enabled S4 Active’s fully sealed design is IP67 rated to keep dust particles out and protect against water damage for up to 30 minutes when submerged at a depth of up to one metre.

A 1.9GHz quad-core processor and powerful 2,600mAh battery allow users to make the most of S4 Active’s 5-inch full HD screen and 8MP rear camera with LED flash.

“Samsung has taken the innovative features of the Galaxy S4 and added breakthrough protective design elements to create a device that thrives in an active environment and is built for a lifestyle of travel and exploration,” says Samsung’s JK Shin.

The Galaxy S4 Active will be available from this summer, initially in the US and Sweden, in grey, blue or orange.
