Russian mobile network operator MTS has teamed with MasterCard to launch a co-branded smartphone that can make NFC payments at MasterCard PayPass contactless terminals.

MTS Bank, Russian Standard Bank and Ak Bars credit cards and public transport tickets for use in Novosibirsk and Kazan can all be stored on the user’s NFC SIM card.

Available in black and white versions, the MTS 975 is powered by a MediaTek MTK6577 1GHz dual-core processor and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The device is available now from MTS stores for 5490 rubles (US$171).
