Barclays to test beacons in branches

Barclays is to run a three month Bluetooth beacon technology trial at its Pinstone Street branch in Sheffield, UK, to alert bank staff to the presence of customers with disabilities. “Customers can choose to opt-in to the service by pre-registering their information through an app,” the bank explains. “These customers can share information about their accessibility needs and even a photo of themselves, so they can be identified as soon as the app senses the beacon. A colleague with an iPad at the front of the branch will then be alerted on their arrival.”
