DASHING AROUND: Singtel has incorporated NFC transit into its mobile payments app

Singapore mobile network operator Singtel has made NFC transport payments and top-ups available through its Singtel Dash mobile payments platform. Deals and rewards have also been added as well as overseas money transfers. In addition to the new features, the service will continue to let users make in-store and online payments.

“The Singtel Transit NFC SIM effectively transforms NFC phones into EZ-Link cards,” the carrier says. “Via the Singtel Dash app, customers can enjoy the ease of checking and topping up their EZ-Link balances on the go.

“The Singtel Transit NFC SIM is now available at all Singtel retail stores. For a limited period, the usual S$5 [US$3.65] EZ-Link registration fee will also be waived. New and existing Dash customers can download the new Singtel Dash app for free.”

Deals

“To celebrate the launch of the Singtel Transit NFC SIM and the new Singtel Dash, Singtel is teaming up with Samsung to offer free rides on buses, MRT, LRT and taxis from today until 31 May 2016,” Singtel adds. “This is exclusively for Singtel Dash customers who register for the Singtel Transit NFC SIM on selected Samsung phones.

“All Dash customers will also be treated to special Dash $1 Deals near MRT stations and bus interchanges at all Singtel retail shops, 7-Eleven, Cheers and Watsons outlets islandwide from now until 31 May 2016.”

Ten Samsung devices are approved for the service, including the Galaxy S7 4G+ and S7 Edge 4G+.

Hotspot

“Singapore has the potential to be the next mobile payments hotspot with its pervasive mobile connectivity and 150% smartphone penetration rate,” says Gan Siok Hoon, Singtel’s VP of mcommerce. “Singaporeans should move forward with an efficient and trusted payments solution and Singtel Dash offers these capabilities.

“We are excited to enhance our payments ecosystem with everyday services such as transit, and end-to-end security features, giving our customers unprecedented convenience and peace of mind. Singtel Dash is truly a mobile payments solution designed for life in Singapore.”

Singtel added NFC payments to Dash in November 2015 to let customers make in-store payments with a tap at more than 200 NTUC FairPrice locations, including FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets and standalone Cheers outlets.
