GLOBAL MOVEMENT: White paper illustrates successful contactless implementations

A 15-page white paper that presents the success stories of contactless implementations in payment, transport and events from around the world is now available to download from the NFC World Knowledge Centre.

‘The Global Contactless Wave’, produced by Gemalto, explores some of the most successful case studies involving contactless technologies from companies including Transport for London, Hellenic Bank and supermarket giant Coles’ PayTag solution, to EasyCard in Taiwan and the contactless wristband used at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, unveiled by Gemalto and Visa in May 2016.

“Gemalto already runs contactless projects with local issuers in nearly 80 countries worldwide,” the digital security giant says. “Contactless payment is a safe bet anywhere carrying cash is inconvenient — like at major events and festivals, when out and about in the city, on the beach or public transport.

“Once you’ve got used to the added benefits, like faster transactions and reduced queues, you don’t want to go back.”

This white paper has been produced and sponsored by Gemalto and has been approved by the NFC World editorial team. You can download this document free of charge from the NFC World Knowledge Centre.

  1. It would seem smarter for US card brands and issuers to embrace contactless instead of resisting it. Even if EMV chip cards were not slower than swipe cards, consumers would still prefer contactless transactions.

I now carry only one card for exceptions and look forward to the day when I will no longer have to carry a card at all.
