French retailers, operators publish NFC adoption plans

The Ergosum consortium of French retailers and operators has published its specifications and two use cases, for both traditional points of sale and self-checkout scenarios, ahead of planned large-scale testing of NFC in the French retail sector later this year. The use cases provide detailed explanations of how the consortium expects to see NFC being used for both payments and for marketing purposes, including promotional coupon campaigns. More

Telecom Italia announces large scale SIM-based mobile commerce project

From next year, Telecom Italia subscribers will be able to use a new generation of SIM card to purchase train and bus tickets, parking, theatre seats, concert tickets and hotel rooms from their mobile phone. For the launch of the service, the mobile operator has partnered with Movincom, an Italian consortium of companies and service providers working to promote mobile retailing. More


Montreal picks Oberthur for contactless transit ticketing system

STM, the Societè de Transport de Montreal, has appointed Oberthur Technologies to supply contactless cards for use throughout the Montreal region’s public transport network, including buses, the subway and commuter trains throughout the Greater Montreal area and the city of Quebec. The cards provide both a contact and a contactless interface, conform to the Calypso standard and will be delivered over four years. More


NFC payments trial launched in Italy

Credit Valtellina already issues contactless Visa PayWave cards in Italy’s Sondrio province under the Tellcard brand name. Now it is testing NFC with Visa Europe, in a small scale trial involving fifty of the bank’s employees. More (in Italian) in Cellulare Magazine. More
