    Verifone deploys mobile API standard

    Verifone is deploying a new mobile API standard to improve interaction between mobile payment and loyalty apps in gas stations and convenience stores. The company worked with Conexxus to deploy the standard across a “wide variety of applications including retail-branded apps and direct automated clearing house payment at the pump with community banks,” according to Verifone.

    Mobile payments face “substantial hurdles” in 2016, says Atlanta Fed

    Limited merchant acceptance points, fragmentation and consumer concerns over security and privacy will remain “substantial hurdles” to mobile payments at the physical point of sale in 2016, according to analysts at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Fingerprint, facial and iris recognition will dominate as the most-used biometrics, a blog post by the reserve bank’s Retail Payments Risk Forum also predicts, although the technology is expected to “face critical adoption challenges”. EMV will pick up pace in the year ahead, the forum adds, while ACH same-day service will “not be a huge hit”.

    MCX adds ACH payments to CurrentC wallet

    US retailer-led consortium MCX is to add ACH payments capabilities to its CurrentC mobile wallet, using technology developed by Buy It Mobility Networks (BIM). “Using BIM’s technology, consumers will be able to connect their checking accounts to the CurrentC mobile wallet app and make payments at the cash register, table or pump at more than 70 brands nationwide,” MCX says. The consortium expanded its CurrentC beta to 150 stores last week.
