    Turkish bank offers ATM cash withdrawals with eye scans

    Customers of Turkish bank Yapı Kredi can now log in to their mobile banking app and withdraw cash from ATMs with a scan of their eyes through an integration with EyeVerify’s Eyeprint ID platform. “Once the user has logged in to the mobile app on their phone with Eyeprint ID by the ATM, they simply scan a QR code from the ATM, input the amount they want to withdraw on their app and the ATM spits out the money,” EyeVerify told NFC World.

    Indian bank customers to open accounts with eye scans

    Customers of DCB Bank in India will be able to carry out transactions such as opening a bank account by having their eyes scanned and verified against the country’s Aadhaar biometric ID database. “A bank representative points the camera at the person’s eyes for about three to five seconds and the Aadhaar details are retrieved from the Aadhaar database,” The Economic Times reports. The feature will roll out to nearly 250 branches in the next six months.

    Fingerprint sensor shipments to reach 1bn units by 2020

    Shipments of fingerprint sensors for smartphones are expected to reach 1bn units by 2020, representing a 17% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), according to ABI Research. “Other biometric modalities like face, voice and eye-based recognition are currently moving out of the fledgling phase and are to be integrated as highly-secure — albeit more expensive — biometric capabilities in smartphone devices with a five-year CAGR revenue growth of 144%,” the company says.
