A Google Play Services v10.0 APK teardown conducted by Android Police has revealed Google may be adding support for NFC payments through Android Pay to its Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch update. “Most of the strings have ‘wear’ and ‘tp’ prefix, which is used for elements in the Tap and Pay interface,” the publication says. “The actual text also makes a couple of references each to Android Pay and the phrase ‘your watch’, leaving no room for misinterpretation.”

Customers of UAE-based bank Emirates NBD can now make mobile payments using Emirates NBD Pay, a feature added to the bank’s mobile banking app utilising Visa Token Service. “Emirates NBD’s Visa credit and debit card customers can use their NFC-enabled Android mobile devices to make purchases at NFC-enabled point of sale terminals by upgrading their mobile banking app on the Google Play store,” the bank says.

Semble, the SIM-based NFC mobile wallet launched in New Zealand by two banks, three carriers and payments network Paymark, is to be discontinued, the mobile wallet company has confirmed. Semble says it now aims to “refocus the business to develop and build new services”.

Google has begun rolling out its Android Pay mobile payment service in Australia with support from American Express and Visa. Google has unveiled Nexus Imprint, a system that brings fingerprint sensor support to its latest phones and the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system.
