    Wells Fargo to launch NFC mobile payments

    US bank Wells Fargo is expected to launch an NFC-based mobile payment service this week, according to the Los Angeles Times. “With mobile wallets such as the one Wells Fargo plans, consumers enter their credit card information in their phones before shopping with merchants who use NFC technology,” the publication reports. “The consumer holds the phone over a payment terminal and taps a button on the phone or enters a PIN.”

    LA Metro to get Bluetooth beacons

    The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is planning to pilot Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons in Los Angeles’ Union Station to track a commuter’s journey and send out relevant information directly to their smartphone. “If the pilot program goes well, the beacons could spread across Los Angeles County to reach hundreds of thousands of commuters on Metro’s sprawling network of bus and rail lines,” LA Times reports.
